    Gail Halvorsen is the grandfather of 24 and the friend of countless kids from here to Germany. His place in history will always be as the Candy Bomber, the Berlin Airlift pilot who dropped candy bars to German children via tiny parachutes when the Soviet Union blockaded Berlin in 1948.     EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 marks EAA Radio’s 11th year of operations. Over that time, the station has become incredibly popular with AirVenture attendees and non-attendees alike. Broadcast 24 hours a day on AM 1210, convention-goers can listen to live coverage of the daily air show, the latest news and announcements, and what’s going on in Theater in the Woods.  Read more

  • Lancair unveils turboprop kit
    Lancair International, which helped pioneer the high performance kit aircraft industry in the 1980s with its composite aircraft, introduced the Lancair Evolution, the latest and highest performing member of its family, at a ceremony at the company’s display area at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 yesterday.  Read more

  • HAC’s Gauthier to receive Spirit of Flight honor
    Joe Gauthier, member of the EAA Homebuilt Aircraft Council and a longtime homebuilder, receives the Spirit of Flight Award tonight at the Homebuilders Dinner at the Nature Center. The award is sponsored by the Society of Experimental Test Pilots and is presented to the EAA member who best exemplifies the spirit of research, development, or flight-testing.  Read more

  • Deadline looms for “fat” ultralights
    There will be no extension of the January 2008 deadline for registering ultralight trainers and "fat" (noncompliant with Part 103) ultralights as experimental-light sport aircraft (E-LSA). John Hickey, FAA’s director of aircraft certification, underscored that deadline Monday afternoon here at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The deadline was specified in the sport pilot rule in 2004. It is firm, Hickey said.  Read more
     
  • Safe ground operations for conventional gear (tailwheel) aircraft
    All pilots feel a need to be vigilant regarding safety issues. They carefully inspect their aircraft during preflight, run up the engine(s), and check the weather. They ask themselves, "Am I physically and mentally ready to fly today?" Simply stated, pilots make many critical, safety-based decisions well before the wheels start to roll.  Read more
     
  • 'Take the Ford Challenge' test-drive!
    Ford invites EAA AirVenture Oshkosh visitors to "Take the Ford Challenge" and test-drive cars, SUVs, crossovers, and trucks from Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury. The event will be located just north of the EAA grounds at the Aviation Mall parking lot (formerly Wal-Mart) and will take place July 26-28 (Thursday-Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Read more

    One of the really cool things about EAA’s new online video player is the ability for members to upload and share their own videos. We’re going to give that capability a thorough workout during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007, as we announce the first EAA AirVenture Video Competition.
