  • The ‘Mother of EAA’ honored by City of Oshkosh
    More than anyone else, Audrey Poberezny is the person responsible for the success of her husband, Paul, and the organization he founded in 1953, the Experimental Aircraft Association. A grateful Mayor’s Breakfast audience formally recognized Audrey for her steadfast dedication to EAA Friday morning when she was presented with the annual Key to the City award.  Read more

    Over the years, EAA’s annual Gathering of Eagles has become a festive gala event that brings together major supporters of EAA’s youth initiatives. Thursday night’s event in the AirVenture Museum’s Eagle Hangar exceeded expectations with more than 1,000 people—corporations and individuals—attending with one common goal: to energize the foundation of aviation—our youth.  Read more

  • Young aviators encourage kids to achieve aviation dreams
    Barrington Irving feels that too many young people are intimidated by aviation. "They think it’s too much science and math, and they think they’re not smart enough or good enough," Irving told FAA Administrator Marion Blakey on Friday morning during a meeting at AirVenture.  Read more
     
  • Epic helps sponsor new EAA Student Membership
    As part of its continuing support for youth aviation education projects, Epic Aircraft announced this week at EAA AirVenture it will sponsor the first 2,000 members of EAA’s new Student Membership program. The new initiative to provide kids younger than 17 with their own membership to EAA officially begins in October, but a pre-launch by Epic will provide complimentary charter memberships at this year’s convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  Read more

  • LSA changes Ercoupe value equation
    Two and a half years ago, John Roach from Northern Illinois bought an Ercoupe 415C for the express purpose of flying it as a sport pilot. Certain models of the "Coupe," as its owners affectionately know it, are the only tricycle-gear, all-metal, standard category airplane meeting the light-sport aircraft (LSA) definition.  Read more
     
  • EAA expresses condolences to Scaled Composites
    An explosion at a rocket test pad at the Mojave Air and Space Port in Mojave, California, killed three people and critically injured three others Thursday. The explosion is said to have resulted from a test involving nitrous oxide flowing through fuel injectors during a check of a new rocket motor for SpaceShipTwo, a spacecraft being built for Virgin Galactic, a space tourism company.  Read more

    The film six years and seven expeditions in the making, Last Flight Home (www.LastFlightHome.org), is the story of searching for and finding WWII MIAs in the South Pacific island nation of Palau.  Read more
      
  • ‘Take the Ford Challenge’ test-drive!
    Ford invites EAA AirVenture Oshkosh visitors to "Take the Ford Challenge" and test-drive cars, SUVs, crossovers, and trucks from Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury. The event will be located just north of the EAA grounds at the Aviation Mall parking lot (formerly Wal-Mart) and will take place July 26-28 (Thursday-Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Read more
     
  • Homebuilder U.S. Rep. Graves joins FAA user fees forum today
    Congressman Sam Graves calls himself an "aviation nut." A pilot since 1992, he grew up with an airport across the road from his family farm. "When I was a kid, my brother and I used to wash planes to get rides from the pilots at the airport," he said. "I’ve been hooked on aviation for as long as I can remember."  Read more
      
  • Closer to certification, Adam Aircraft gears up for production
    A key word this year at the Adam Aircraft exhibit is "productionizing;" working hard to ensure the company and its two products—the A500 push me/pull you piston twin and the A700 very light jet (VLJ)—are the very best they can be once delivered to their customers. Chairman and Founder Rick Adam is convinced his company’s efforts to modernize, streamline and perfect its manufacturing process will pay huge dividends as it gears up to fill the nearly 400 orders it has in hand for both types.  Read more
     
  • Sen. Inhofe seeks EAA member input on GA issues
    Sen. Jim Inhofe’s family can be found parked among the Warbirds this weekend. The Oklahoma senator has been attending AirVenture for 29 years, and has passed the love of the event on to his family. No matter how busy they are, Inhofe’s children and grandchildren meet him at EAA AirVenture to celebrate the impact aviation has had on their lives.  Read more
     
  • FAA administrator surprised with award at NAFI breakfast
    More than 150 people gathered Thursday at the EAA Nature Center for the ninth annual National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) Meet the Masters Breakfast. FAA Administrator Marion Blakey attended the breakfast, ostensibly to acknowledge the importance to aviation of dedicated flight instructors.  Read more

    New aircraft trading cards are a fun way to introduce kids to the world of aviation. Produced by Alpha Tango Charlie Inc., the cards contain photos and interesting facts about aircraft that children are likely to see at a local airport, museum, or air show.  Read more

  • Embraer’s Phenom 100 makes maiden flight
    The high-stakes race to bring a very light jet (VLJ) to market saw another entrant Thursday when Brazilian manufacturer Embraer took its Phenom 100 entry for its first flight. Test pilots Capt. Antonio Bragança Silva and Capt. Eduardo Alves Menini, along with flight-test engineer Marcelo Toledo Basile, crewed the flight from the company’s manufacturing facility in São José dos Campos.  Read more
     
  • Annual WAI breakfast attracts 120 members
    More than 120 Women in Aviation International (WAI) members attended WAI’s Celebrity Breakfast Friday morning at the Hilton Garden Inn. Special guests included John and Martha King, who announced that every member attending WAI’s 2008 Conference in San Diego will receive complimentary access to the Kings’ online Jet Transition course, a donation valued at more than $1 million.  Read more

  • PCAvionics offers ready-to-fly moving-map packages, glass panel options
    Aviation software publisher PCAvionics announced its new, ready-to-fly moving map packages this week at Oshkosh, along with a new product line of panel-mounted instrumentation for experimental aircraft, dubbed "yourGlassPanel."  Read more
     
  • First Aid Center offers care and comfort
    The staff at the First Aid Center at EAA AirVenture sees "pretty much everything that a normal emergency room would see," said Mary Jeanne Trosky, who manages the center. A registered nurse from McHenry, Illinois, Trosky has been coming to Oshkosh and working in the First Aid Center for 25 years. The First Aid Center is located just north of the control tower.  Read more
     
  • Greg Toman to receive 2007 Raspet Memorial Award
    Greg Toman of Grand Rapids Technology Inc. will receive the August Raspet Memorial Award today for his contributions to the advancement of electronic instrumentation in the ultralight and experimental aircraft areas. The presentation will be made at tonight’s Homebuilt Aircraft Awards ceremony, held at the Remos Aircraft Forum Pavilion 11, which starts at 6 p.m.  Read more
     
  • The final roundup: A gathering of Mustangs and legends
    A total of 105 P-51 Mustang aircraft from around the world have been confirmed to attend the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends, hosted at the Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, from September 27-30, 2007. Along with these beautifully restored fighters there will also be the men and women that flew them in combat and training.  Read more
     
  • NASA 747 SOFIA observatory takes astronomy to new heights
    Put a 45,000-pound observatory with an infrared telescope the size of Hubble in the back of a sport model 747SP and on a clear day, you can see forever. The best part is, at 41,000 feet, it’s always a clear day. That’s the beauty of NASA’s new Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). It can fly above 99 percent of the Earth’s atmospheric water vapor, the enemy of infrared observation. Still in its test and integration program, SOFIA promises to take heat-based infrared astronomy to new heights, above ground-based observatories.  Read more

    EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2007 marks EAA Radio’s 11th year of operations. Over that time, the station has become incredibly popular with convention attendees and non-attendees alike. Broadcast 24 hours a day on AM 1210, convention-goers can listen to live coverage of the daily air show, the latest news and announcements, and what’s going on in Theater in the Woods.  Read more
