The final roundup: A
gathering of Mustangs and legends
By Jim Busha
A total of 105 P-51
Mustang aircraft from around the world have been confirmed to attend the
Gathering of Mustangs and Legends, hosted at the Rickenbacker
International Airport in Columbus, Ohio, from September 27-30, 2007.
Along with these beautifully restored fighters there will also be the
men and women that flew them in combat and training.
A total of 47 legends
have been confirmed, including Col. Bud Anderson, Gen. Don Strait, Bob
Hoover, Lee Archer, WASP, and many other greats from that era.
Event organizer Stallion
51 Corporation believes this year’s gathering will draw 150,000 to
200,000 people per day. The U.S. Air Force is contributing to the event,
also, with demonstration flights by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds,
F-22 Raptors, F-15 Eagles, and F-16 Falcons. Along with the military jet
demonstration teams zooming through the Ohio skies, there will also be
civilian performers that include Patty Wagstaff, Mike Goulian, the
AeroShell AT-6s, Red Baron Pizza Squadron, and many more.
General admission price
to the Gathering of Mustangs and Legends is set at $15. Gates will open
daily at 8:00 a.m. Mustang flybys, beginning at 10 a.m. daily, will
include a formation of 51 P-51s, with a mass formation flyby scheduled
to close the show on Sunday.
