Sharp with the Nemesis NXT |
Jon Sharp, EAA 239592, and Nemesis Air
Racing hope to claim another speed record this summer while dazzling
crowds at EAA AirVenture 2008. Sharp aims to break the current 3 km
record of 331 mph in the C1-b category with his NemesisNXT.
"It's going to be really exciting
having the NemesisNXT screaming back and forth on runway 18-36 at full
song and then some," Sharp said in a press release. "And what
a treat for us to be back on the 3 km course at AirVenture." Read

Sharp has broken the 3 km record twice
before at AirVenture and once at Mojave in another weight category with
the original Nemesis. This will be the first time he will attempt to
break the record in this weight category and with the Nemesis NXT.
To break the record, set in 1989 by
Richard Gritter in a Venture aircraft, Sharp must exceed the current
record by a minimum of one percent, or at least 334.31 mph, while on a
3km straight-line course. Four passes through the timing gate are
required, and Sharp must stay within the altitude limits set by the
worldwide keeper of aeronautical records, Federation Aeronautique
Internationale.
