Lindy
Aircraft Awards
Only the best of the best can count themselves among those
lucky enough to have won the prestigious Lindy Award.
Unlike other awards which recognize lifetime or professional achievement, the only way you
can earn a Lindy Award is to be judged the Grand Champion or Reserve Grand Champion at in
one of eleven competitive categories at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
Named after aviation hero Charles Lindbergh, the award acknowledges the tireless effort
necessary to create an aircraft that's truly best of show. The Grand Champion in each
category is presented the Golden Lindy, while the Reserve Grand Champion nets the Silver
Lindy.
But the Lindy Award is more than a mere beauty contest. Judges are more impressed by
workmanship than a nice paint job and, in the case of vintage/warbird aircraft,
authenticity over shiny chrome. The personality of the aircraft owner has no bearing on
the judging - the only thing that matters is the quality of the work. This means that
a Lindy Award winner possesses a beauty that is far more than skin deep.
