EAA AirVenture Oshkosh RSS FeedEAA AirVenture's 'WomenVenture' Promotes Involvement of Women in All Areas of Aviation
Women aviators from around the world will have several opportunities to encourage other women to explore the limitless possibilities of flight when they gather at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008, July 28-August 3. And who knows? They may even wind up being part of a world record!

WomenVenture, a joint effort by EAA and Women in Aviation International (WAI), aims to attract women as new pilots through the presentation of programs, seminars, speakers, and events during the week. One of the special initiatives planned is a giant logbook that will track the number of female pilots attending this year. The logbook will be on display throughout the week in the EAA Welcome Center, allowing women pilots - current or otherwise (including student pilots) - to sign in and participate in an attempt to establish a world record for the largest single gathering of women aviators in history.

"The goal of WomenVenture is to encourage women aviators to share their passion for flight with other women around the world and increase the ranks of females involved in aviation," said Elissa Lines, EAA vice president of development and a private pilot. "We urge all women who are pilots, or student pilots, or hope to become pilots to participate."

Also joining in will be the Ninety-Nines, whose president, Pat Prentiss, states, "Promoting, mentoring and supporting women pilots since 1929, the International Organization of Women Pilots, known for nearly a century as The Ninety-Nines, is delighted to join with the efforts of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh and Women in Aviation International to showcase the unlimited aviation opportunities for women in all pursuits of aviation and aerospace."

All female pilots (current or non-currrent) or student pilots in attendance on Friday, August 1, are also invited to gather on AeroShell Square at 10:30 a.m. (following the annual Women in Aviation Breakfast) to be in the photograph of the world's largest gathering of women pilots.

WomenVenture hopes to increase participation of women in the world of aviation - not only as pilots, but also as mechanics, designers, builders, journalists, photographers, and even enthusiastic volunteers. "We want women to know that there's no limit to what they can do in aviation, no matter what their age," said Dr. Peggy Chabrian, WAI president. "Participating in aviation is an incredible experience and this gathering of women should be seen as inspiration to encourage others to get involved."
