EAA will be empowering and inspiring high school age women again this year, as the annual Women Soar You Soar event comes to Oshkosh during AirVenture on July 26-28, 2009. The mission of Women Soar You Soar is to engage, inspire, and educate young women, grades nine through 12, to pursue their dreams in aviation and beyond.
During EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2009, EAA will host approximately 100 girls in various activities such as hands-on workshops, air show viewing with MIT and Embry-Riddle college alumni and representatives, aircraft walk-arounds with air show performers, mentor sessions and challenge courses. Participants in the program are granted free admission to AirVenture during the Women Soar You Soar event all that "The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration" has to offer.
Applications are available at http://www.airventure.org/womensoar/ and will be accepted through July 10, 2009, or until program is at capacity. Registration is $50, which includes overnight lodging at UW-Oshkosh, meals and AirVenture admission. Scholarships are available for some applicants to cover registration provided by The Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP), Cdr. John Paradiso for Women in Aviation, Ragged Edge, and The Heather McRoberts Memorial.
This event will help kick off WomenVenture at EAA AirVenture. The weeklong activities culminate on Friday, July 31 with a gathering of thousands of women pilots at Oshkosh. The airshow that day will feature all women performers followed by a Theater in the Woods program highlighting leading aviation women.
