When
WhiteKnightTwo (Virgin Galactic Mothership "Eve") makes several
low passes upon arrival at Oshkosh on Monday afternoon, July 27, it will
be the first of four scheduled flight demonstrations during EAA AirVenture
Oshkosh 2009 by the aircraft. Monday's air show-opening arrival will also
be WK2's first appearance before a general-public audience.
Another significant first occurs the next
day (Tuesday, July 28) during WK2's second flight demonstration. Sir
Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin group, will be a crewmember in the
aircraft, marking his first-ever flight aboard an aerospace vehicle
developed for his Virgin Galactic space tourism enterprise.
Additional flight demonstrations are
scheduled for Thursday, July 30, and Saturday, August 1 - immediately
preceding WK2's departure before the air show. When parked on AeroShell
Square, AirVenture attendees can experience up-close the unique,
groundbreaking aircraft that will lift SpaceShipTwo and its passengers to
altitude for launch into suborbital space.
