July 29, 2009 - Oshkosh, Wisconsin - Twice already fences have been moved to make auto parking smaller and homebuilt parking bigger.

According to Joe Norris, EAA homebuilders’ community manager, homebuilt arrivals are well ahead of 2008, filling up the available parking and forcing some quick changes to both the general parking and the camping areas.

“I’m surprised it happened so early,” Norris said. “We had a record number of homebuilts here last year and hope for an even bigger record this year. It’s certainly starting out well.”

Even with the record numbers last year, Norris could not recall homebuilt parking ever filled up.

Each year the parking configuration for homebuilts changes, and this year was no exception. According to Norris, even with the changes, about the same amount of space is available as last year. Plans are in the works for more homebuilt space as upgrades to the convention grounds continue.

Homebuilders still planning to come to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh should not worry. Norris said there always is room for showplanes, though a short stay in the overflow area may be required until a spot opens in the homebuilt parking area.

FUTURE AIRVENTURE DATES: 2014: July 28-Aug. 3; 2015: July 20-26; 2016: July 25-31; 2017: July 24-30
