August 1, 2009 - Oshkosh, Wisconsin
-
Comedian Jeff Dunham and his "suitcase
posse" will make an encore performance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh
2009, courtesy of RotorWay International.
Dunham's performance drew a crowd estimated
at 10,000 people at Theater in the Woods at AirVenture 2008. It was the
largest crowd ever gathered for a Theater in the Woods program.
This year's performance, included with
regular AirVenture admission, will begin at 8 p.m. today. Dunham's
performance will be preceded by Air Racer: Chasing the Dream beginning at
6:15 p.m. The movie tells the story of husband-and-wife team Jon and
Patricia Sharp, who risk everything to create the most advanced airplane
ever made for air racing, the Nemesis NXT.
"Jeff Dunham brought down the house at
AirVenture's Theater in the Woods in 2008, as a record crowd estimated at
10,000 enjoyed his unique talents," said Tom Poberezny, EAA president
and AirVenture chairman. "Jeff has a special connection with all of
us at Oshkosh because he builds and flies his own RotorWay helicopter.
He's back because of the great experience he had last year, and his
performance is a highlight of AirVenture's evening programs, which
certainly shouldn't be missed."
The DVDs of Dunham's performances have sold
more than two million copies in little more than three years, and most of
his national tour dates have sold out well in advance. His video clips on
YouTube have drawn an estimated 100 million views worldwide. In late 2008,
Dunham's Christmas special was a huge hit on Comedy Central. He had
previewed some of that material to the audience at last year's AirVenture
appearance.
"As we all discovered in 2008, Jeff
Dunham's comedy and his own aviation interest are a perfect fit for the
thousands of flying enthusiasts at EAA AirVenture," said Grant
Norwitz, chief executive officer of RotorWay International. "We're
proud to bring him and his colorful cast of characters such as Walter,
Peanut, Achmed, and others back to 'aviation's family reunion' at Oshkosh
this year."
