For the first time, aircraft buyers and sellers at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will be able to rely on more than handbills, want ads and word-of-mouth, as the "Spirit of Aviation Auction" will be held on the AirVenture grounds on Saturday, July 31.
The auction, conducted by REDC and Auction.com, in conjunction with EAA, will feature all types of consigned aircraft, from privately owned recreational aircraft to rare vintage and warbird airplanes, and larger general aviation planes. It will be the only aircraft auction held on the grounds at Oshkosh and in partnership with EAA.
"For decades, AirVenture attendees have seen bulletin boards plastered with dozens of handbills offering aircraft for sale and that makes sense, since tens of thousands of pilots discover that their next airplane is available at Oshkosh," said Rick Larsen, EAA's vice president of marketing. "This auction is added value for those who want to make that connection to sell or buy an airplane during a fun event on the AirVenture grounds. EAA is working to ensure that a variety of interesting aircraft will be part of this sale, along the entire spectrum of price ranges."
In addition, a website has been established that allows people to view the aircraft that will be part of the Spirit of Aviation Auction, or makes it possible to consign an aircraft to the sale. Sellers looking to consign aircraft for this auction may do so now at www.airventure.org/auction. The website will be updated as aircraft are added to the event.
"AirVenture 2010 may be the best venue on the planet to buy or sell an aircraft," said Jeffrey Frieden, CEO of REDC and its website, Auction.com. "This auction will bring together people and aircraft in a way not seen before in the aviation community. We are thrilled to partner with EAA for this landmark aviation auction event."
Additional details of The Spirit of Aviation Auction, the only aircraft auction conducted in partnership with EAA, will be released as they are finalized.
