A low cost HUD (Heads Up Display) designed
to project an image onto the backside of an aircraft’s propeller took
the honors as the third winner of the Roy LoPresti Innovation in
Aviation Award, LoPresti Aviation announced Monday.
The HUD provides critical flight
information to pilots while they look straight ahead outside the
aircraft.
According to LoPresti Aviation CEO RJ
Siegel, the creative thinking of designer Bill Steele met the three
criteria established for the award, which is named after the late
designer and speed maven.
To meet the requirements, Siegel
explained, the product must be innovative; it must be practical; and it
must offer a seamless user experience.
“Bill Steele’s Virtual HUD passes all
these tests with flying colors,” Siegel said.
The Virtual HUD and other products made
by his company are on display at the booth #4101 in Hangar D.
