Brian Churchill,
Chairman Warbird Camping/Auto Camping, EAA 526177 Chapter:
Warbirds Squadron 4, Hometown: Round Lake Beach, Illinois.
|
Describe your position: I’m
responsible for anything that doesn’t have wings in the Warbirds area.
Years volunteering: Eleven. In
1998, I met a volunteer from Squadron 4, and he recruited me. My two
sons also volunteer, and my wife, Diane, works in the Warbirds Store.
What do you enjoy most? Used to be
because of the airplanes, but now it’s the people.
Day job: IT professional.
Aviation background: Private pilot
working on instrument rating.
Who introduced you to aviation? My
wife asked me what I really wanted to do. I said flying, and here I am.
First airplane ride: This was
before discovery flights. I climbed into the plane, and the instructor
said, “You’re getting into the wrong side–you’re flying today.”
Building anything? After seeing an
EAA webinar, I’m interested in the Zenith 701.
Odd camper request: When someone
asked me if I thought it was okay to order a beer trailer with a three-tapper
for the campground. He thought it would save money. In case you’re
wondering, the answer was no.
I was impressed with my campers when:
They set up a homemade movie screen on the side of a camper. This was
pre-Fly-In Theater days.
Memorable AirVenture experience:
The 2010 monsoon!
