Parts manufacturer Tempest announced this
week at EAA AirVenture 2010 it added two new categories to its existing
line of FAA- and PMA-approved aviation parts, components, and tools:
engine starter motors and spark plugs.
The first of its starter motors is a new
FAA/PMA-approved design eligible for installation on TCM engines. The
Tempest PowerFlite starter mounts directly to the engine and is
available in both 12- and 24-volt versions.
“We are proud to bring a highly
efficient and reliable starter to general aviation. Our PowerFlite line
of starters has been designed and developed by a team of engineers with
over 50 years combined experience in starter/generator design,” said
John Herman, Tempest vice president of sales and marketing.
Meanwhile, the company said it has
received FAA/PMA approvals and began shipping its new spark plugs. In
addition to being competitively priced, the Tempest spark plug line
features nickel plating for corrosion protection, a proprietary glass
center seal and integral resistor for improved spark gap life, and an
unslotted electrode head ensuring consistent contact for energy
transfer.
A vacuum-cemented center electrode
prevents combustion gases from interfering with heat transfer while the
spark plug’s ceramic insulator uses a proprietary glaze material to
ensure high mechanical strength and dielectric quality.
The new spark plugs are available in
standard massive electrode and premium fine wire designs.
