Carol Carnright,
winner of the Aviat Husky |
Thousands of people helped contribute to
EAA and the Young Eagles program by purchasing raffle tickets for the
EAA Share the Spirit Sweepstakes and Young Eagles Raffle. Two lucky
people were the winners of this year's grand prizes: a Aviat Husky and a
2010 Ford Mustang GT Convertible.
Carol Carnright was at home in Alaska
when she received a call from EAA to tell her she had won a Husky.
"I didn't recognize the area code," she said "so I almost
didn't answer it." She says that her first reaction was
"You've got to be kidding me. It was a major shock."
Carol and her husband, Zachary, are still
discussing if they can keep the plane, given the tax increase it would
cause. "But it's been a while since we had a working plane,"
she said.
Don Van Cura, Sr. bought his Young Eagles
raffle ticket after visiting the Ford tent to get a hat for his
daughter. "I buy one every year," he said "but I never
expect to win." He didn't find out until Monday when he returned a
call EAA had left at his business. He left Oshkosh just a few hours
before the drawing. "I asked them if this was some sort of cruel
joke," he said. He plans to pick up the car on Friday and is
"absolutely keeping it."
