Robert A. "Bob" Hoover, the pilot's pilot, will be honored at Oshkosh on Tuesday, July 26, with a number of examples representing the airplanes he flew - if not the actual models themselves. "On Tuesday, Hoover Day, we hope to fly several of Bob's old airplanes," remarked Joe Schumacher, AirVenture's director of flight operations.
Although not fully confirmed yet, the plan is to include the following aircraft the showcase for Tuesday: Focke-Wulf Fw 190, F-86 Sabrejet, P-51 Mustang, Shrike Commander, and Saberliner jet. Showcase flights begin at 2 p.m.
Plus, during the Tuesday and Thursday air shows, the hope is to use his P-51 Yellowbird, Shrike, and Saberliner in some sort of routine, Schumacher said. "Details on all of this are still being worked out."
