On June 24, a newly refurbished #74 Super Corsair F2G-1 fired up its Pratt & Whitney R-4360 and taxied around the hangars to test the brakes for the first time since being salvaged from Walter Soplata's Aircraft Collection. Aviation photographer Moose Peterson was privileged to capture the first shots of #74 as Bob Odegaard and his family first cranked over the elite warbird.
"After initial run up and getting fluid pressures and gauges checked, Bob hopped into the cockpit," Peterson wrote on is blog. "Together with (son) Casey they went over the Corsair performance. Not that we could hear a word with the sweet sounding roar of the Pratt & Whitney humming. It is a sweet sounding engine!"
This is Bob's second restored Super Corsair - his red and white #54 has been to AirVenture several times and races at Reno. The plan is for #74 to be at Oshkosh parked at the Reno Air Races tent in about three weeks, then compete at Reno in September. We'll definitely have more to report on this airplane, so stay tuned.
