Baseball legend Ken Griffey Jr. and Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas lead a list of participating celebrities in the fourth annual EAA Young Eagles Celebrity Golf Classic, presented by ClubGrove.com, on Wednesday, July 27, at Oshkosh Country Club.

They’ll be joined by actors Chris McDonald, who played “Shooter McGavin” in the 1996 comedy hit Happy Gilmore, and Robert Hays, “Ted Striker” in the 1980 comedy classic Airplane!

Also appearing are aerobatic legends Sean Tucker and Mike Goulian, and many other aviation personalities.

The outing brings golf and aviation enthusiasts together in support of the EAA Young Eagles program. A number of prizes include the private use of golf carts during AirVenture, special aviation experiences, and an extraordinary hole-in-one prize—a new Renegade Falcon light-sport aircraft.

All participants will receive continental breakfast as well as lunch and beverage service throughout the round, a hole-in-one challenge package, and transportation to and from the Oshkosh Country Club. There will also be a reception and awards ceremony at the club following the tournament.

Griffey, a private pilot who owns a Cirrus SR22, is one of the most prolific home run hitters (fifth all-time with 630) and best defensive players in baseball history. He played for the Seattle Mariners, Cincinnati Reds, and Chicago White Sox, won 10 Gold Glove awards, and appeared in 13 All-Star Games.

Thomas, who helped lead the Buffalo Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls in the early 1990s, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 after amassing 12,074 yards during his 13-year NFL career. He was the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 1991, a five-time NFL All-Pro selection, and a member of the 1990s All-Decade Team.

Shuttle buses depart the AirVenture grounds beginning at 7 a.m., with an 8:15 a.m. “shotgun” start. Participants will be returned to AirVenture in time for the afternoon air show, where they will receive VIP credentials for air show viewing.
