Monday was Chris Heintz Day at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, and Zenith builders came in droves from all points to honor the aircraft designer, who has introduced more than a dozen successful kit aircraft designs.
A Salute to Zenith Designs took place Monday morning on ConocoPhillips Plaza. Chris, surrounded by gleaming Zenith designs, answered questions from the crowd, but stayed mum on any new projects.
“I am not talking about a new airplane until we flight test it and like it,” Chris said.
Host Jerry Burke added, “We’d have to shoot you!”
Chris’ son, Sebastien, said they pulled Chris out of retirement to come to AirVenture this year. Mary Jones, EAA director of publications, presented Chris with an award, calling him a “pillar of the homebuilding community.”
Also included in this week’s Chris Heintz tribute is a banquet in his honor Wednesday evening at the Nature Center. Tickets are available at the Zenith display until 12 p.m. on Wednesday or until they sell out. Zenith is located in the North Aircraft Display area, Booths 640-641.
