Paul Bunyan had Babe, his blue ox, as his sidekick. But EAA’s new President and CEO Rod Hightower has Blue One, a modified golf cart that will allow him to get around the expansive grounds during the annual fly-in conventions.
Longtime EAA AirVenture Oshkosh attendees are familiar with the infamous red Volkswagens that mean EAA Founder Paul Poberezny or EAA and AirVenture Chairman Tom Poberezny are nearby.
Paul can be seen driving throughout the grounds in Red One, while Tom drives Red Three. But EAA’s new president and CEO opted for a different vehicle and different color.
“Tom (Poberezny) came to me and asked if I wanted to drive a Volkswagen,” said Hightower. “I said, Tom, look at me, I don’t fit in a Volkswagen.”
The 6-foot 3-inch Hightower instead opted for the red, white, and blue golf cart, and Audrey Poberezny suggested he call it Blue One because he needed his own identity.
“Plus, blue is my favorite color,” he said.
