EAA AirVenture Oshkosh RSS Feed Help Us 'Crowdsource' Oshkosh Photos
Cub
You can help us ID AirVenture arriving and departing aircraft by participating in a new crowdsourcing project.

Needless to say, we took an awful lot of photos at Oshkosh this year. Among the estimated 100,000-plus taken by EAA staff and volunteers are more than 1,300 images showing arriving and departing aircraft, shot from Saturday, July 23, through Sunday, July 31. We don't have the resources to organize and publish them all, so we’ve decided to “crowdsource” the project. That’s where you come in.

The 1,300-plus photos have all been uploaded to the popular photo sharing website Flickr, organized by date, for arrivals and departures. Taking our cue from a successful project run by the Library of Congress, we are asking for your help to crowdsource the basic categorization of each photo. Just over 200 photos have been tagged so far.

What we’re asking is for you to click here, then select one of the dated sets on the right side, then follow the instructions to add a few tags to some untagged photos. Use the “add a tag” link displayed on the right as you view the photos. (Note: You will need a free Flickr account to add tags.)

We’re looking for simple information, such as color, engine type (piston, turbine, jet, electric), wing (high-wing, low-wing, biplane, etc.), configuration (tricycle gear, tailwheel, floats), registration, and other information as available. For example, for a Cirrus SR22, you’d add the following tags: white, low-wing, piston, single, nosewheel, NXXXXX.

Once all the tagging is done, users will be able to search the photo collection by N number (or other country registration) or by keywords generated by the tags entered.
Perhaps we got a shot of your airplane arriving or departing KOSH. Search the images and see if you can find it.
