EAA was informed by the Brazilian Air Force Esquadrilha da Fumaca (Smoke Squadron) demonstration team that its scheduled appearance at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2012 and two other North American air shows have been canceled because of budget cuts in Brazil.
The Brazilian team also canceled July appearances at air shows in Dayton and Willoughby, Ohio.
"It's disappointing that the Brazilian team won't be able to join what is a true all-star air show lineup at Oshkosh," said Jim DiMatteo, EAA's vice president of AirVenture features and attractions. "There are so many new features to this year's air show that make it one of the best ever. We hoped that the Smoke Squadron would have been part of it, but the show will go on, bigger and better than ever."
Among the acts making their Oshkosh debut in 2012 are the Canadian Forces SkyHawks Parachute Team and Team RV formation aerobatics squad, as well as the appearance of the "Tora! Tora! Tora!" military tribute and the return of the spectacular Rockwell Collins Night Air Show on Saturday, July 28. Those acts and others join an air show lineup that features the finest civilian air show performers in world, performing before the most knowledgeable air show audiences anywhere.
"Oshkosh remains the place for air show performers to fly," DiMatteo said. "All of our performers are headliners at air shows throughout North America, but they know flying at Oshkosh is a special achievement rewarding them for their proven skills and prior performances, and is a major accomplishment in their air show careers."
Air shows, presented by Rockwell Collins, are part of the entertainment each afternoon at AirVenture 2012, which takes place July 23-29.
