| Cessnas 2 Oshkosh pilots arrive at Wittman Regional Airport in 2012. |
March 5, 2013 - On July 27, the Saturday before AirVenture opening day, dozens of Cessna pilots will arrive en masse at Wittman Regional Airport in the eighth annual Cessnas 2 Oshkosh flight.
The grassroots organization brings Cessna owners and pilots together to fly in formation and camp with friends and relatives in the North 40 during EAA AirVenture-Oshkosh.
In 2012, 41 aircraft participated. The group can include up to 50 airplanes.
The group holds 14 formation clinics around the country from March through July conducted by volunteer lead and safety pilots within the organization. Pilots are required to attend at least one of the clinics if they wish to participate, according to Gil Velez, who handles communications for Cessnas 2 Oshkosh.
Participating pilots also must register through the group's website and pay the $50 registration fee. The other requirement for pilots is to attend the preflight briefing from the staging airport in Juneau, Wisconsin (UNU), on the day of the flight, July 27.
On Thursday, July 25, pilots are scheduled to arrive at UNU, where they'll be hosted by the Wisconsin Aviation FBO. On arrival day pilots will attend the preflight briefing at 11 a.m. CDT followed by the short hop to Oshkosh launching at 1 p.m.
