May 22, 2013 - Along with an awesome collection of World War II aircraft, the Texas Flying Legends Museum will bring a number of WWII veterans to AirVenture Oshkosh 2013 in a C-53 transport. This week we start the first of a series of profiles of those veterans, P-51 pilot David Born.

Member of the 479th Fighter Group, 434 Squadron. Dave trained in the North American AT-6 Texan and flew more than 100 hours in the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. He trained in the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, and when he arrived in England, flew the P-51 in combat.

Dave is credited with one kill in a P-51 Mustang nicknamed Just Born. He also flew with the "Boys from Syracuse 174" Tactical Fighter Group of the New York Air National Guard, and retired as a major in the Air Force.

During his military career, he flew with Col. Hubert A. "Hub" Zemke and Maj. Robin Olds. Also a photographer, Dave took many pictures and is credited with more than 80 photographs in the book The 479th Fighter Group in World War II.
