Fareed Guyot a.k.a. "Afterburner Al"

Al serves as Co-Station manager of EAA Radio and is in charge of “that vision thing”. Beginning in 1994, Al spent several summers parking homebuilt airplanes and was soon hooked on Oshkosh. While pursuing an Aviation major at St. Cloud State University; Al became heavily involved in KVSC-FM, St. Cloud (SCSU’s community radio station) and soon that interest spilled over to his duties at Oshkosh, meeting up with Digital Dave and Elfitz.

After a year with one microphone and one mixer Al and friends asked and received new studios which are still located in the former Communications Center (near the stone arch). Inspired by the new space which offered two studios and a lobby; Al set about to organize the program schedule, produce audio to support the broadcast, and pound the pavement for interviews. Al’s most satisfying accomplishment is to see the once neophyte radio volunteers bloom into engaging radio hosts.

Afterburner Al has a BS in Aviation/Professional Flight from St. Cloud State University. Al has been a public radio journalist since 1994 including two years as regional host of NPR’s All Things Considered on Northwest Public Radio in Pullman, WA. In his current manifestation, Al flies a CJ3 for a fractional ownership company. He is type rated in the CJ3, Gulfstream II, King Air 350, and Hawker 800XP. Al lives in Rockford, IL where he also serves as president of EAA Chapter 22. In addition, Al serves as “Union Steward” for members of the EAA Communications Green Gang.
