intern with EAA Radio this year, under a program developed by EAA Radio
co-station manager Jim Gray.
Justin is working toward a B.S. in Mass Communications/Radio
Broadcasting and hopes to complete his studies in the fall of 2008. Justin is
gaining most of his radio experience as an On-Air host at KVSC-FM, St Cloud,
MN. (St. Cloud State University’s community radio station). Justin looks
forward to learning what it takes to set-up EAA Radio, a unique broadcasting
entity that operates only 7 days out of the year.
Justin was born and raised in the Twin Cities diaspora.

Craig Georg aka "Lord of the Wav": Craig is an
intern with EAA Radio this year, under a program developed by EAA Radio
co-station manager Jim Gray. Craig is working toward a B.S. in Mass
Communications/Radio Broadcasting and will be completing his studies as life
permits.
Craig has worked in radio before, but he wants credit from a
teacher this time, and Jim Gray is willing abide; IF Craig can slay the
mountains of audio that will come his way during AirVenture 2007. Craig hails
from Grand Marais, MN which is waaaaaaaayyyyy up north where only Canadians
hold the right to call folks southerners. Craig may be learning radio but he
will have learned much about aviation after AirVenture.

Rob Sturgeon aka "Radial Rob": Rob Sturgeon wants to talk to you and if you have been at AirVenture before he may already have. Rob, a private pilot, is EAA Radio’s most prolific field reporter, filling up his audio recorder faster than our editors can process his previous harvest.
Rob likes to talk with people and his curiosity and genuine interest has led him to interview many aviation luminaries at AirVenture. Rob is retired from US Steel where he worked in purchasing. AirVenture is a family affair as his wife Kris and their two children Erik, 14 and Lauren,12 spend two weeks in Oshkosh each year enjoying the summer and pitching in at EAA Radio.
You can often see the Sturgeons visiting every corner of the convention grounds talking to folks and bringing their stories to the air. Erik, is entering his 2nd year as a field reporter in-training, while Kris continues to serve as EAA Radio’s NASA expert. Lauren’s best work is in the exhibit halls as a champion collector of SWAG. The Sturgeon family resides in Portage, IN.

Michael Stromberg aka "Wireless MIC": Mike is EAA Radio’s agent in-country which is especially important during the off-season when the EAA Radio facility needs attention. MIC brings many workmen-like skills to the staff including carpentry, wiring and savvy equipment salvage. Many an EAA Radio broadcast was saved after equipment failure by the items contained in MIC’s Basement of Wonder.
MIC started volunteering with EAA radio in 2004. Wireless MIC graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1997 with a degree in Computer Science and Aviation. He currently flies as a Captain for Air Wisconsin in the Canadair CL-65. Wireless MIC also volunteers at EAA’s Pioneer airport during the summer where he flies Young Eagles with 287 flown to date. Wireless MIC resides in Oshkosh with his wife Cori and their two Children Mercedes, age 4 and Shaylee, 3 months.

Jeff Montgomery aka "J Mont G": Jeff is an
airline Captain with a major US airline and has been attending AirVenture since
he was a young boy. He camps with the Vintage aircraft volunteer group in
"Sally's Alley" and owns several vintage aircraft. A radio
broadcasting/mass communication major in college, radio has been Jeff's passion
for a long time.
EAA Radio provides Jeff an outlet to stay involved in his other
passion and ties right into the aviation side of his life.

Nick Gaulin: Nick has over 3 years of work experience in radio and TV, and brings that knowledge to EAA Radio as a producer. He has been attending Air Venture since he was a young child, while his father has been sharing the love of aviation with Nick.
The behind the scenes work is vital to the operation of the station, and Nick provides his talents during the busy Air Venture week.

Dave Leuter aka "Digital Dave": Dave is one of the founding members of EAA Radio. A wire-puller with EAA Communication’s Green Gang, Dave was yanked into a dark room full of electronic spare parts and asked to talk on a small FM transmitter and not stop. Digital Dave has worked as a Cable TV Network Amplifier Designer, Mail Processing Equipment Mechanic, and bus driver which makes him eminently qualified to be a radio host. Dave was short on radio experience and long on enthusiasm for aviation which is why Digital Dave was able to learn the necessary radio skills fast. Now Dave is passing his experience on to a new generation as his 14 year-old son Michael “Mini-MIC” Leuter has begun to learn the EAA Radio trade.
Dave and his son hail from Glenmoore, PA near Philadelphia.

Edmund Gary Leuter aka "Fast Eddie": Eddie is the older half of the Leuter Brotherhood. Fast Eddie has announced air shows up and down the east coast; that’s why it took 6 years for him to join his brother at EAA Radio. On the announcer stand Fast Eddie is known as "The Voice of Fun". In the EAA Radio studio he has yet to be known for anything...redeeming.
Fast Eddie lives in suburban Philadelphia.

Mel Futrell aka "Magneto Mel": Mel gives EAA Radio a female and intelligent touch. Afterburner Al happened upon Mel as she worked for EAA’s Protect Our Planes. Mel needed a public service message imploring attendees to respect the personal space of the airplanes parked on the field. Al invited Mel to the studios to record the script and she never left. Mel holds several advanced degrees that focus on culture, communication, applied psychology, and human factors engineering. She continues to chase a doctorate as well. Mel is also an active associate member of the Deaf Pilots Association, volunteering considerable time as an advocate to raise awareness among the aviation community-at-large.
Mel holds a private pilot certificate with an instrument rating, as well as an advanced ground instructor certificate. She recently worked for the FAA on a one-year project conducting human factors research and lives in North Hollywood, CA.

Chris Fitzsimmons aka "Elfitz": Chris was one of those EAA babies that attended his first Oshkosh before he attended his first birthday party. His parents were partners in Continental Airshow Productions whose iconic red trailer has served as the airshow control center for many years at AirVenture. Chris learned to handle wire early and by the time he was 14 he was looking for a new kind of volunteer opportunity.
Chris met Digital Dave and Afterburner Al in that dark public address amplifier room and soon EAA Radio was born. At Chris’s tender age of 14 he became EAA Radio’s chief engineer and continues to serve in that capacity today. This year the tradition continues as Chris’s daughter is experiencing her first AirVenture just weeks after experiencing her first breaths of air. Chris and his wife Anna reside in Elgin, IL.

Fareed Guyot aka "Afterburner Al": Fareed Guyot aka Afterburner Al: Al serves as Co-Station manager of EAA Radio and is in charge of “that vision thing”. Al was coaxed into volunteering at EAA by AirVenture Cup Race chairman and college roommate Eric Whyte. Al spent several summers parking homebuilt airplanes and was soon hooked on Oshkosh. While pursuing an Aviation major at St. Cloud State University; Al became heavily involved in KVSC-FM, St. Cloud (SCSU’s community radio station) and soon that interest spilled over to his duties at Oshkosh, meeting up with Digital Dave and Elfitz.
After a year with one microphone and one mixer Al and friends asked and received new studios which are still located in the former Communications Center. (near the stone arch) Inspired by the new space which offered two studios and a lobby; Al set about to organize the program schedule, produce audio to support the broadcast, and pound the pavement for interviews.
Al’s most satisfying effort is to see the once neophyte radio volunteers bloom into engaging radio hosts. Afterburner Al has a BS in Aviation/Professional Flight from St. Cloud State University. Al has been a public radio journalist since 1994 including two years as regional host of NPR’s All Things Considered on Northwest Public Radio in Pullman, WA. In his current manifestation, Al flies a Gulfstream II for a real estate development firm in Rockford, IL where he also serves as president of EAA Chapter 22. In addition, Al serves as “Union Steward” for members of the Green Gang.

Tim Valley: Tim is President and CEO of MacroMedia, a firm that provides computer based broadcast automation systems to broadcast media organizations. Tim has been a long-time EAA member with a special affinity for the seaplane base.
Tim met Jim Gray thru his work with KVSC-FM, St. Cloud, MN when the station served as launch customer for Tim’s radio automation system AirForce. The successful launch has served KVSC for several years and Tim was happy to donate his stellar program to EAA Radio to use in its operations. Tim is a broadcast engineer and software designer and has designed digital systems for the Minnesota State Services for the Blind.
EAA Radio is truly grateful to Tim for the use of his program and his enthusiasm while he completely rewired the EAA Radio studios; eliminating some of the yearly headaches that often emerge.
Tim lives in Apple Valley, MN.
The Green Gang: The Green Gang is a group of long-time dedicated volunteers that keep AirVenture in the know. From the public address system on the flightline to smaller PA systems around the grounds, and the myriad of communication radios, the Green Gang makes it happen each year.
EAA Radio would not exist without these dedicated folks in green. Many of the audio feeds that you hear were laid by Green Gangers and they are still cared for by them today. Green expertise by Larry “MacGyver” Macowiak, Jim Livingston, Wilbur Hisch, the late Bill Fobes (the original EAA Radio equipment fairy) and many more keeps EAA Radio programming on the air.
